With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the way, it’s only a matter of time (probably) until the next edition of Super Smash Bros. Fans have been waiting for years now ever since Smash Ultimate’s DLC finished up, so signs that a followup is (probably) on the distant horizon is starting to breathe new life into a fanbase that has grown stagnant over the last few years. But that still raises another question: What form could this potential “Smash 6” take?
Turns out that’s not as easy a question to answer as you might think! With multiple paths the next Smash game could take, and the fans divided over which they want most, what could happen? A simple port of Ultimate that takes everything that game did and carries it to the Switch 2 immediately, like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did years ago? A reboot of sorts that overhauls as much as possible to iron out the kinks that have built up and start a new era for the series? Or something else?
